About Hochodo
Hochodo (包丁堂) comes from the Japanese hōchō (kitchen knife) and dō (house): the knife house. It's not to be confused with hōchōdō (庖丁道), the ancient Japanese knife ceremony, which we admire but have no connection to. It's the name we gave to a small shop with a simple idea. A good knife doesn't need a legend. It needs to be used.
What we sell
Japanese-style Damascus kitchen knives, sold in matched sets and one by one, with the few things that keep them sharp: a whetstone, a ceramic honing rod, a magnetic block and end-grain boards. We picked them for people who cook at home, and for the people who buy them gifts.
What you can count on
- Honest specs. Steel, layers, hardness and blade length are listed as the manufacturer gives them to us. If we don't know something, we don't write it.
- A clear origin. Our knives are Japanese in style, made in Yangjiang, China. We never call them Japanese-made.
- Free US shipping. Orders ship from warehouses in the United States and arrive in 5–9 business days.
- 30 days to decide. Return an unused item within 30 days of delivery.
